Q&A

What was your favorite book as a child?

I was obsessed with any weird, niche fantasy book I could get my hands on.

What was the original reason or motivation why you started writing creatively?

I think it was a natural development of both my passion for playing pretend when I was a child and a tendency to become fixated on works of fiction.

What was the most adventurous or thrilling thing you ever did/experienced?

I’m not an adventurous person by any means but I would say moving away from home for the first time when I was 18. There’s a continuous sense of discovery in the process of recontextualizing your daily life when you move to an unfamiliar place that for me has always been both joyous and thrilling.

Do you listen to music while reading or writing?

I never do when I’m writing poetry or during first drafts. Music demands attention and it distracts me from my train of thought. If I’m editing prose I’ll occasionally pick a song that reflects the mood of what I'm working on and let it play on repeat.
